From تِشْرِين (tišrīn), from Classical Syriac ܬܫܪܝܢ (tešrīn, autumn month), ultimately from Akkadian 𒌚𒇯 (tišritum), and cognate with Hebrew תִּשְׁרֵי (tišrei, Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew lunisolar calendar) + الْأَوَّل (al-ʔawwal, the first), as this month is considered the first month of autumn.
