بدرام
Persian
Alternative forms
- پدرام (padrâm)
Etymology
An old compound:
- From Proto-Indo-European *per-, *próti, *préti. Compare Avestan 𐬞𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (paiti, “against”), Sanskrit प्रति (prati, “against”).
Folk etymology links it to بد (bad, “bad”) and رام (râm), which is wrong.
