ע־ד־ן (ʿ-d-n)

Some propose a derivation from Akkadian 𒂊𒁲𒉡 (edinu, desert, steppe), itself a loan from Sumerian 𒂔 (eden, plain, open country). Alternately, a derivation from the same Proto-Semitic root as dialectical Arabic عَدَّان (ʕiddān or ʕaddān), having the meaning "biding place"/"place of remaining", "an abode".
