Etymology

From խոչ (xočʻ) + ընդ (ənd) + ոտն (otn), literally “pointed stone or prickle under feet”. For a similar formation compare Latin impedimentum, Ancient Greek ἐμποδών (empodṓn). See also առապար (aṙapar).
