Akin to the synonymous Azerbaijani lək, Tat lak, Judeo-Tat lok. Ultimately perhaps from Persian لاک (lâk, trough, wooden vessel), the enclosed garden bed being perceived as a sort of trough, and thus identical with լաք (lakʻ, dry measure for cereals; wooden trough).
