Inherited from Old Ruthenian волѣти (volěti), from Old East Slavic волѣти (volěti), from Proto-Slavic *volěti. Equivalent to воля (volja) + -іти (-ity). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic волѣти (volěti), Serbo-Croatian во̀лети, Polish woleć.
