πῖσος

Ancient Greek
Etymology
No certain etymology. Traditionally analyzed as *πῖδ-σος, related to πῖδαξ (pîdax, “spring, fountain”); this is rejected by Furnée, who takes the alternation δ/σ to point to Pre-Greek origin.
