From Proto-Albanian *uell-, from Proto-Indo-European *welh₃-(s-) (“to tear, seize upon”).[1] Cognate to |Latin vello (“to pluck, tug”),[2] Latvian veli, Lithuanian vẽlės (“the ghostly figures of the deceased”), Gothic wilwan (“to rob”), and Hittite [Term?] (/hullāi/, “fight, struggle”).
