Etymology 1

From Proto-Finnic *turpa, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *turpa. Cognates include Erzya турва (turva, lip), Moksha търва (tərva, lip), Western Mari тӱрвӧ (türvö, lip), Udmurt тырпы (tyrpy, lip), and Komi-Permyak тырп (tyrp, lip).
