From Old Persian [Term?], from Proto-Iranian [Term?], from Proto-Indo-Iranian [Term?], from Proto-Indo-European *ḱelH- (cold).[1] Compare Avestan 𐬯𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬙𐬀 (sarəta, cold), Lithuanian šáltas (cold), Old Norse héla (hoarfrost, rime), and perhaps Sanskrit शिशिर (śiśira, cool, frigid).[2]
