Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish سیوری (sivri), from Proto-Turkic *sībri (“sharp, sharp-edged”).[1]
Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (süvri), Azerbaijani sivri, Turkmen süýri, Crimean Tatar sivri, Yakut үөрбэ (üörbe), Gagauz sivri, Kazakh сүйір (süiır), Kyrgyz сүйрү (süyrü), Southern Altai сӱӱрӱ (süürü, “sharp”), etc.
