Inherited from Proto-Turkic *sībri (“sharp, sharp-edged”);[1] cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (süvri), Azerbaijani sivri, Crimean Tatar sivri, Kazakh сүйір (süiır), Kyrgyz сүйрү (süyrü), Southern Altai сӱӱрӱ (süürü, “sharp”), Turkmen süýri and Yakut үөрбэ (üörbe).
