Etymology

From Japanese 焼酎 (shōchū しょうちゅう), from Mandarin 燒酒 (compare Mandarin shāojiǔ 烧酒, Korean soju ), from 燒 ("burn", "flammable") + 酒 ("alcohol"). Doublet of soju.
