From Malay sayembara, from Sanskrit स्वयंवर (svayaṃvara, “self-choice [of husband by nobility daughter]”). Cognate of Old Javanese swayambara, Javanese sayembara (ꦱꦪꦼꦩ꧀ꦧꦫ).
