From Proto-Albanian *ki(i)atśi-, from Proto-Indo-European *kei-(h2-) (“to put, set in motion”). Cognate to Ancient Greek κίατο ἐκινει̃το (kíato ekineĩto), Lithuanian kečiù, kėsti (“to stretch”).
