pareizs

Derived from the borrowed term reize (“time”), originally in the combination pa reizi (“(arranged) in order”) (reizi being here an older dative, corresponding to modern reizei) and then later as a single adverb pareizi, from which an adjective form pareizīgs was formed in the 1860s-1870s, reduced by the turn of the century to pareizs. The original meaning “in order” changed to “(well) organized,” from which it became “right, correct,” replacing the earlier Germanic borrowing riktīgs.[1]

1. precise, exact, correct, accurate (done without errors or mistakes)

   viņš uzskata - aktierim arī ārpus teātra jārunā pareizi ― he believes (that) an actor must speak properly, correctly also outside of the theater

4. used adverbially to confirm or reinforce what was said: right! exactly! precisely!

   pareizāk sakot ― speaking more accurately, to put it more acurately, rather

   vai tad Rīgā darba trūkst? pareizi? ― so there is lack/shortage of work in Riga? (is that) right?

   “turpiniet uzdevumu!” direktors atkārtoja... “uzdevums nemaz nav iesākts”, Zigis nomurmināja... “pareizi, pilnīgi pareizi! nāciet pie tāfeles” ― “continue the task!” the director repeated... “the task hasn't even been started yet,” Zigis muttered... “right! absolutely right! come to the blackboard”
