Possibly from Proto-Yoruboid *ó-rũ, cognate with Igala ólu, Ifè orũ, Olukumi órún, probably ultimately from *lũ (“to sleep”), which is now an obsolete root. It is not clear if the root *sũ̀ (“to sleep”) (sùn) is from the same root. Perhaps also related to Igbo lụ̀
