From Old Danish nokut (also nokot, nokæt, noghet), neuter form of nokær, cognate with Norwegian Nynorsk noko and Swedish något. Grammaticalization of the phrase Proto-Germanic *ne wait ek hwat (or alternatively formed by analogy as a neuter to nokær within early Old Norse). See more at nogen.
