From Proto-Albanian * ̊truδ-,[1] or *entrūda,[2] from Proto-Indo-European *trewd- (to squeeze, crush, press). Cognate to Old Church Slavonic троудити (truditi, to load, plague), Latin trūdō (to thrust, push), Gothic 𐌿𐍃𐌸𐍂𐌹𐌿𐍄𐌰𐌽 (usþriutan, to burden).
