Etymology
Calque of Ecclesiastical Latin media hebdomas (“middle of the week”). Equivalent to mitti + wehha. Presumably replaced earlier *wuotanestag (literally “Wuotan's day”), from Proto-West Germanic *Wōdanas dag.
