Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *laukā, from Proto-Indo-European *lówkos (clearing), close to Latin lūcus (sacred grove) and Proto-Germanic *lauhaz (clearing, open space). Alternatively from Proto-Germanic *lakaz (brook, river, swamp) (cf. Old High German lahha, Old English lacu).[1]
