kärweñe
Tocharian B
Etymology
From Proto-Tocharian [Term?] (whence Tocharian A kärwañ), but from there uncertain. Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *gʷréh₂wō, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷreh₂-, in which case cognate with Sanskrit ग्रावन् (grāvan), Lithuanian girna, and English quirn. Also possibly related to Ancient Greek κεραυνός (keraunós, “lightning”), as some rocks were believed to be formed by lightning strikes. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “Missing Proto-Tocharian word, can't find it in my source.”)
Derived terms
- kärweñäṣṣe (“rocky”)
