From Ottoman Turkish ایگده (iğde), اگده (iğde, “oleaster”), from Proto-Turkic *yidge (“jujube, berry”).[1]
Cognate with Kazakh жиде (jide), Azerbaijani iydə, Kyrgyz жийде (jiyde), Uzbek jiyda, etc.
