From Ottoman Turkish ایگده (iğde), اگده (iğde, oleaster), from Proto-Turkic *yidge (jujube, berry).[1]

Cognate with Kazakh жиде (jide), Azerbaijani iydə, Kyrgyz жийде (jiyde), Uzbek jiyda, etc.
