Etymology
From discolçâ, or from a Vulgar Latin root *disculceus or *discalceus, itself from Late Latin discalceō (or from Latin dis- + calceus), or less likely from disculciātus, but possibly influenced by it. Compare Venetian descolz, Dalmatian discualz, Romanian desculț, Sardinian iscultzu, isciurtzu, iscurtu, iscúlciu. Cf. also Italian scalzo, Venetian descalso, descalço, Catalan descalç, Occitan descauç, French déchaux, Portuguese descalço, Spanish descalzo.
