Inherited from Ottoman Turkish دفعةً (defʿaten),[1][2] from Arabic دَفْعَةً (dafʕatan) adverbial accusative of دَفْعَة (dafʕa, a push, thrust; one go; a payment), from دَفَعَ (dafaʕa, to push; to repel; to pay).[3]
