Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بر چرپیده (bir çırpıda),[1] from بر (bir) and چرپی (çırpı),[2][3] equivalent to bir (“a, one, indefinite determiner”) + çırpı (“cut clippings of a branch; a line drawn on timber with a painted string”) + -da (locative suffix), from çırp- (“to hit, to strike”) + -ı (deverbal nominal suffix).
