almorrana
Spanish
Etymology
Inherited from Vulgar Latin *haemorrheuma, from Ancient Greek αἱμο- (haimo-, “blood”) + ῥεῦμα (rheûma, “stream, flow”), from ῥέω (rhéō, “to flow”). The first syllable was formed by analogy with other Spanish words borrowed from Arabic with the article اَل (al-, “the”).[1] Cognate with Galician almorrá, partly with Portuguese almorroida and almorreima, and possibly with Catalan morena.
