  1. (virology) Kraken variant: A variant of SARS-CoV-2 (“COVID-19 virus”), a sublineage of the Omicron variant (“B.1.1.529”). This variant became dominant in the United States of America at the end of 2022 and start of 2023, and is the most transmissible yet of the major strains as of the turn of the year 2022/2023.
