Ven is first attested with certainty as venschen kirchaven in 1381. Zelderheide is first attested as Zeldersche Heide in 1869. Ven is derived from ven (“small pool in a forest or heathland”), while Zelderheide is a compound derived from the toponym Zelder and heide (“heath, heathland”).
