Varsseveld
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as versnevelde in 1152. Perhaps a compound of Middle Dutch varse (“young cow”) and veld (“field”). Another etymology explains the first component as Middle Dutch versene (“heel”), used here as a metaphor for the shape of the field. Compare Peursum, Poederoijen, Poeijers, Sterksel, Vaarle, Vaarsel, Varsen, Varssel, Varsselder, Ten Vorsel and Bolsele.
