Borrowed from Nepali शाक्य (śākya), from Sanskrit शाक्य (śākya), which is most likely from Sanskrit शक् (śak, “to be able”). Alternatively, from Sanskrit शाखा (śākhā, “branch, teak”); see Shakya for more.
