Etymology
Probably a deverbal, if so, from *bur- (“to smell”). For possible cognates, see Turkish burcu (“aroma, scent”), Turkish buram buram (“in whirls, billowing (of smell, smoke)”), Karakhanid [script needed] (burïɣ, “something that smells”), Kyrgyz [script needed] (bura-, “to reek strongly”), Uyghur پۇراق (puraq, “smell”), Khakas [script needed] (puru-, “to emit a stench, to burn (of food)”) et cetera (Dybo, 2013).
