Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *kʷeh₁y-e-, from the root *kʷeh₁y- (Derksen's reconstruction; Rix prefers *kʷey-). Cognates include Avestan kауеiti, Sanskrit चायति (cā́yati, “to perceive, to observe”), Ancient Greek τίω (tíō, “to esteem, to respect”).
