Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Finno-Ugric *śampe (whence Southern Mansi шупу (šupu)). Alternatively, possibly derived from *sambas, or borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (whence Lithuanian stambus (“large”)).
