Etymology

A variant of *nana, probably from earlier *ńana (and cognate with Proto-Samic *ńunē). The further origin is unknown, as is the origin of the variation; it is possible that *nenä goes back to earlier *ńenä,[1] which in turn could be a variant of *ńëna, from which *ńana could be descended from.[2]
