Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *h₂énh₁mn̥ (“breath, spirit, soul”), from *h₂enh₁- (“to breathe”) + *-mn̥ (abstract noun suffix). Equivalent to *ana- + *-man.
Compare Proto-Italic *anamos and Proto-Hellenic *ánemos, from *h₂énh₁mos.
