Meterik
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as meterick in 1483. Etymology uncertain. Unlikely to be derived from a Latin or Romance source, as no remains of Roman settlement have been found near the village. Possibly a contracted compound of an unknown first element and wijk (“village, settlement”). Compare Middelijk, Oostenrijk and Schadijk.
