Lăpuș
Romanian
Etymology
Either from Hungarian Lápos, from lápos (“swampy”), from láp (“moor”), or from Proto-Indo-European, similar to Proto-Balto-Slavic *lápas (“leaf”), Lithuanian lãpas (“leaf”), Latvian lapa (“leaf, sheet of paper”). Romanian has a number of plants that are named lăpuș, including Telekia speciosa - lăpuș-de-oaie, burdock - lăpuș-de-iepure, that are also found in Aromanian, Albanian, and Megleno-Romanian where they could not be derived from Hungarian.
