Etymology
First attested as urasuagh in 1315. Calque of West Frisian Koartsweagen, derived in turn from a compound of Old Frisian kort (“short”) and swâg (“pasture, place where cattle is kept”). The element kort was added to distinguish the settlement from Langezwaag.
