Etymology
First attested as ecclesia danielis in 1395-1396. Compound of Middle Dutch kijf (“argument, fight”) and hoec (“corner”).
The toponym derives from a conflict over land boundaries in a land reclamation area. Compare Cabauw, Hebrecht, Kijfwaard, Kibbelgaarn, Kibbelveen, Krakeel, Krakeelpolder, Schellach and Strijkviertel.
