Etymology 1

Compound of hof (court) + stad (city). Named after the Binnenhof, which originally was the seat of the Counts of Holland and now houses the Dutch parliament.

  • (Utrecht) Derived from the toponym Westrummerhofstad (a former village), a compound of the toponym Westrum (derived in turn from Middle Dutch wester (western, west-) and heem (home, settlement)) and hovestat (homestead). As the neighbourhood is located in the southeast of Houten, it was decided to drop the element Westrummer.
