Haalderen

Dutch

Etymology

Potentially attested as halenderen in 1254, attested with certainty as halderen in 1294-1295. Potentially derived from Proto-Germanic *halahdrum (place with juniper bushes). A proposed derivation from Middle Dutch hael (barren) is unlikely. Compare Halder and Hellendoorn.
