First attested as coernem in 1423. Borrowed from West Frisian Koarnjum, potentially derived in turn from Old Frisian Curra (“a personal name”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi- and hēm (“home, settlement”). Compare Korhorn, Kornhorn and Korrewegwijk.
