  • (in various locations) This sign can be made in various locations near the signer's chest. The location identifies the locations of the two referents other than the signer. For example, making the sign far to the left indicates that the other two people are far to the left.
  • (in circles of various sizes) This sign can be made in circles of various sizes to indicate the distance of the two other people from the signer. Small circles indicate that the two other people are near the signer, while large circles indicate that they are far from the signer.

Etymology

  • This one-handed ASL sign is produced as follows:
    1. Posture the dominant hand in the “3” shape within a few inches of the chest, in between the signer's chest and the other referents, dominant palm facing up.
    2. Move the hand in repeated horizontal circles. The size of the circles indicates the distance the other two referents are from the signer.
    3. Hold the hand still briefly.
