-esyen

Malay

Etymology

Borrowed from English -ation, from Latin -ātiō. Doublet of -esen, -sen, -asi, -si, and -syen

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /-eʃən/
  • Hyphenation: -é‧syen

Suffix

-esyen (Jawi spelling -يشن)

  1. -ation.
    Synonym: peng- -an

Usage notes

In newer adaptations of English loanwords ending in -ation, alongside with -esen, this is now replaced by -asi in an effort to make the ending of words of this kind uniform with its Dutch-derived counterparts in Indonesian (compare konvokesyen for convocation and implementasi for implementation).
