Korean

Etymology

Short for older 거들랑 (-geodeullang), from 거든 (-geodeun) + 을랑 (-eullang).

Suffix

  1. if
    김치 만들어고 걸랑 배추 사야지.

If you want to make kimchi, you have to buy cabbage.

Usage notes

  • Although given without comment in the prescriptive dictionary of the language, it is nowadays typically perceived as a nonstandard and somewhat quaint term from the traditional "Seoul dialect" that was used by people of the capital region prior to South Korean industrialization, rather than with the contemporary standard language.
