Etymology
From the zero-grade form *plฬฅhโ-i-, from Proto-Indo-European *plehโ- (โwide, broad, flatโ). Originally the PIE adjective most likely inflected as:
- nominative: *plรฉhโ-i-s
- genitive: *plฬฅhโ-รฉy-s
and the oblique stem was generalized.
