Etymology
From Old Persian *Pariaujah (“victorious”), composed of *pari (“around”) + *aujah (“strength, power”).[1][2][3] The first element is from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pari, which is from Proto-Indo-European *péri, while the second one is from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háwǰas.
Compare the Old Armenian given name Վարազ-Պերոժ (Varaz-Perož), the place names Պերոժ-Կաւատ (Perož-Kawat), Հրաքոտպերոժ (Hrakʻotperož), Սպանդարանպերոժ (Spandaranperož), Որմզդպերոժ (Ormzdperož), as well as the given name Պելուժավր (Pelužavr), all Iranian borrowings.[4][5]
