Etymology

Sino-Korean word from 태권(跆拳) (taegwon, foot and fist; trampling and punching) + (way). Coined by Korean martial artist Choi Hong Hi in 1955, influenced by the name of the unrelated martial art of 택견 (taekgyeon).
