Etymology

제 (je, short for 제기랄 (jegiral, “incest”)) +‎ ㄴ장 (njang, short for 난장(亂杖) (nanjang, “torture by beating”)). Originally, it is a contracted form of 젠장맞을 or 젠장칠.
